Build An Altar

Seems like every time we read the news there is a disaster occurring somewhere in the world such as storms, earthquakes and fires. We read and see pictures of so many crying out through the pain of it. And it hurts. Offering praise during such times is truly a sacrifice for when one’s mind is reeling from the impact of the devastation praise is not the natural inclination. Praise at this time becomes a form of submission to the only One who can really control the storms of life. It is a time, though, to build an altar and offer a ‘sacrifice of praise’. Think of Noah and the flood. Can we even imagine what went on in Noah’s mind when he walked out of the ark? Think about it - all mankind but his immediate family gone! Can we even begin to imagine his brokenness? Yet, he builds an altar and worships God the one who sent the flood.

Noah builds an altar to the Lord, and in that moment of his surrender in worship, Noah receives a promise - God would never again curse the earth or smite every living thing for while the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night will not cease. This promise was obtained not only for Noah and his family but for every generation of people and it is good to note that this promise impacted the curse given to Adam.

If you find yourself in an impossible circumstance build an altar and offer up to God a sacrifice of praise for it is most powerful and you never know you just may obtain a promise for generations to come.

“6 You rejoice in this, though now for a short time you have had to be distressed by various trials 7 so that the genuineness of your faith —more valuable than gold, which perishes though refined by fire — may result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” 1 Peter 1:6-7

“Therefore, through Him let us continually offer up to God a sacrifice of praise, that is, the fruit of our lips that confess His name.” Hebrews 13:15

Genesis 8:19-21
Genesis 3:17-19
